Care of furniture
It is important to know that provide that you follow maintenance and cleaning instructions regularly, the characteristics of materials and products will last and serve you longer.
Taking care of wood and lacquered surfaces, especially tops
If finished with an acid-catalysed lacquer, properly applied modern furniture will be resistant (but not proof against) to heat and limited exposure to alcohol.
The only cleaning necessary is a wipe with slightly damp cloth followed by a soft, dry duster. Do not use abrasive cleaners, they will scratch the surface.
Table surfaces should be protected from hot, damp items such as unglazed bottoms of coffee cups, spillages, especially of alcohol, should be wiped immediately with a damp cloth and should never be left for long periods of time.
For stubborn marks (in the lacquer and which have not affected the timber below), rub in the direction of the wood grain with a soft cloth and small quantities of either hot water and vinegar, soap and warm water, industrial alcohol. Another polishers’ trick is to use ‘0000’ wire-wool, but nothing coarser than that.
BEWARE silicon spray polishes, such as ‘Mr Sheen’, these build up an unsightly film and will react with the lacquer and cause irreparable damage. The only remedial action is to strip the whole top and respray, even then the results are unpredictable.
Taking care of fabrics
For normal maintenance and cleaning, use often the vacuum cleaner with the appropriate part for fabric, and if necessary, cover the part with a soft cloth.
For a deeper cleaning use a dry detergent for fabrics. Do not use anything petroleum based. Do not brush fabric and do not use vacuum cleaner with rotating brushes which could permanently damage the fabric causing pilling problems or change fabric appearance. Do not apply water or liquid solutions. Making the fabric wet could cause permanent damages.
How get rid or avoid spots and stains:
* Act quickly! Most of the spots will vanish if they are treated immediately and not allowed to dry
* Mop up excess liquid with white absorbent tissues or clean cloth; scoop up solids with a spoon or blade of a knife.
* Use small amounts of cleaning fluid at a time and blot between each application, avoid pressing liquid through the fabric
* If possible, place a wad of white tissues between the fabric and filling
* Never rush! Work patiently and thoroughly
* If the first step does not work, leave to dry, then try the second and, if necessary third method
Taking care of mesh office chairs
A fabric is considered dirty when it shows visible marks. These are usually the result of a progressive built up dirt or dust as part of a normal use. For normal maintenance and cleaning:
* Dust fabric with vacuum cleaner or with a soft brush
* Wash with a soft brush or with a sponge using a solution of water and detergent
* Rinse a lot with water
* Let the mesh dry in open air
Taking care of leather
For normal maintenance and cleaning it is suggested that “Leather soft cleaner” iand “Leather protection cream” is used.
Leather soft cleaner is a water-based cleaner that can be used on every type of leather. This is a mild cleaner that will not affect the leather’s original properties or finish. It will clean most soiling as well as water-based stains and unlike detergents, doesn’t contain solvents like alcohol or turpentine. Use the equipped sponge in the “Leather master” kit.
Leather protection cream provides excellent protection against oil-alcohol based stains as well as helping to resist the effects of daily soiling, creating an invisible, breathable barrier. Apply it to a soft cloth and wipe it evenly, paying particular attention to high use areas. We recommend fully cleaning and re-protecting your furniture 2-3 times per year.
Taking care of metal finishes
To preserve the brilliant chrome finish, regularly wipe with a soft clean cloth using only mild soap and water. It is useful to know that the polished aluminium undergoes a natural oxidation process.
For brass and other non-ferrous metals a proprietary cleaner is ideal, but you should avoid the contact with wood or lacquered surfaces.
Taking care of plastic material
For normal maintenance and cleaning use a soft clean cloth with water and normal soap.
