Buyers guide-how to choose a table
Here are some thoughts about things you need to consider when choosing a table:
The room
Does the style of the building and the room lend itself to a contemporary or a classic style? Choose from our contemporary or classic collections.
Is the room going to be a dedicated space, or will it be used for a variety of purposes? If the latter, consider our demountable or folding tables.
What is the size of the room? What is the Overall size, and of that, what is the useable size, excluding for example, pillars, alcoves and other indentations?
What else is to go in to the room? This will dictate the amount of space available for the table. How much space do you need to allow for the other furniture that needs to go into the room? E.g. chairs, side cupboards, partitions. Experience and convention indicates that you need at least 1200mm of space between the edge of the table and the nearest solid surface to enable people to comfortably sit themselves around the table. This will enable you to work out the effective space available for your table.
The table
What is it for? Is it a Boardroom table,a Meeting table, a Dining table, a Conference table, in a room for doing AV presentations?
Who is going to see it? Do you need it to make an impact for example in a client facing setting, or is it essentially for a utilitarian purpose?
How many people do you need to sit at the table? We would recommend that you allow at least 700mm -750mm per person. Thus a 1000mm table would seat 4 people, an 1800mm x 900mm table would seat 4-6 people, a 2000mm x 1000mm table would seat 6-8 people.
Consider the height of tha table when choosing chairs. Do you want chairs with arms, and do you want the arms to go under the table? Normally a table stands at least 740mm high.
Does it need connectivity?
Does the table need to be wired for power, data, and audio-visual aids such as video screens?
What should it be made of? Choose tops which are laminated or veneered. Our wood tables with veneered tops come with a choice of edge detail as special design features. The bases can be wood or metal. You can choose the staining for the wood, and metal bases come in a variety of finishes, powder coated in a variety of colours, satin polished, and mirror polished. Our laminated tables come in a wide variety of colours, including some that "simulate" wood finishes, but are of course much more resilient to wear. They are all illustrated with the table so you can choose the ne that suits your best.
